Bates Motel

Everyone’s been sick around these parts. Steve has had some sort of bug all week and I haven’t been feeling well for a few days. I’ve been spending a lot of time in bed this weekend resting so I restarted my Netflix subscription (so addicting). One of the shows that’s always seemed intriguing to me was Bates Motel. I love scary movies and was immediately drawn to the story line.

The story serves as a prequel to Hitchcock’s film Psycho. Now I have never seen Psycho, probably because the Birds 3D exhibit at Universal scared me as a child, but it’s definitely being added to my list of things to watch once I’m done with the show.

I’ve always been a person who is interested in things that go bump in the night. I believe in ghosts, collect ghost stories and took a Vampire Literature class in college. One of my dreams is to buy an old victorian home and fix it up. The things I might find along the way are what makes it interesting. The house in Bates Motel is amazing. Everything inside and out is over the top, ornate, OLD.

The series is supposed to be set in Oregon but is actually filmed in British Columbia, Canada. The mountains and seaside views are incredible. I am now adding British Columbia to my list of places to research and someday visit. Maybe make a trip out of it and visit Haley!

The cast is just as incredible as the scenery. Vera Farmiga is incredible. She was my favorite character in The Conjuring and does a great job of playing characters who “aren’t all there”. Her son is played by Freddie Highmore who I had never heard of prior to watching this show but he is one of those people that fits the role so perfectly. Freddie’s character, Norman, can give me the chills in a normal scene where he is standing, filling the frame, staring ahead.

The only issue that I have with the show is the time frame in which it’s supposed to be taking place. Wikipedia says it is during modern time which I can understand. The girls in Norman’s school are wearing clothing that matches the current fashion but his teacher Miss.Watson looks like she stepped out of the 50’s.

And this picture below. This DEFINITELY doesn’t look like 2013

It’s so good

I am currently watching the Season 1 finale and am so incredibly sucked into this series that I almost forgot I’m seeing Ellie Goulding in concert tonight. Just kidding, I’m counting down the hours until I am in the same space as Ellie FREAKING Goulding!
