Baltimore Lights

There’s only one more week until Christmas and I’m sad to see the time going so quickly. I am excited to spend the week with my family and finally give away the presents I’ve been holding onto for months but I’m not excited for the holiday season to be over. I’ve said it before- the best time to live in the city is during the holiday season. There are lights everywhere, the people are in good spirits and the cold is almost bearable knowing that a warm Christmas would be too weird. However, as soon as January 2nd rolls around the lights will be taken down and winter will seem unending.

Steve and I are really immersing ourselves in the holiday spirit this year and have already spent time in the harbor checking out the lights and the ice skating rink. Last year we walked around my neighborhood and then drove over to Hampden to check out their Miracle on 34th street. We decided to make this a tradition so on Sunday evening I made nutella hot chocolate, poured it into coffee cups and we hopped in the car.

I love Hampden. It’s no more than 10 minutes outside of the city and has so much character and charm. The restaurants are so good and we never get the chance to go there enough. We took note of all the restaurants we want to try on the avenue and made a deal to cross off one restaurant a week until we try them all!

34th street is a Christmas lover’s dream. Every single house is decorated with lights, trees made from junkyard pieces, a light up Natty Boh and Sally Utz. Even Santa was there with his motorcycle turned sleigh. Think Clark Griswold except that he lives in every single house on a city block and goes all out decorating each year.

This year we were able to tour one of the artist’s homes and it was so special to be able to interact with a home owner and support local artists.

I love that Steve and I are creating traditions together and can’t wait to see how they out-do themselves next year!

The lights look incredible. There is nothing more Christmas-y than driving around looking at the beautiful lights. Merry Christmas Miss Megan!
