Oh Hey Friday- It’s Moving Time!

Tomorrow is the big day- I’m moving! I am excited/nervous/overwhelmed/irritated/happy and every other emotion under the sun. I am happy to make the move, excited to see everything come together, irritated and overwhelmed that everything I own is packed up and not easily accessible to me and slightly overwhelmed at the thought that for the next few days I won’t be able to find anything when I need it.

However, I have noticed as my roommates and I have been packing and discussing the thought of moving that I am not as opposed to it as they are. We are all moving into different places and although each of us have different processes (I’m moving into a new house with a roommate, one is moving into her boyfriend’s house and the other is moving into an apartment) it hasn’t been a bad experience for me. I’ve been packing about 4-5 boxes every week or so since the beginning of December to make the process a little easier and less overwhelming which has definitely helped.

So in tradition of linking up with September Farm and The Farmer’s Wife and posting 5 things… I present to you the 5 things I actually ENJOY about the moving process. I know, I know it’s crazy talk but all true.

  1. Clean Sweep- there is nothing I love more than going through drawers while packing and tossing anything that I don’t need. I can be a bit of a hoarder and that is not a good look on anyone so hurrah for actually throwing things away!
  2. Organization- everything gets packed away in a box with like items so I can see what I have and what I need. A kitchen box without plates or cups…oops gotta fix that!
  3. Inspiration- This one goes along with #5. I love taking a blank canvas and dreaming up how I can make it “me”.
  4. Re-Evaluation- This packing process has allowed for some introspection in my life. Do I really need two bags of makeup when I can count on my hand the number of times I’ve worn eye shadow in the last year? I am a simple eyeliner and mascara kinda girl so why do I have three smoky eye palettes? Time to eliminate!
  5. Fresh Start- I have a love/hate relationship with the first few days in a new place. I have to unpack immediately or I will be an anxious mess and the first night of sleep is always a little strange. There are a new sounds and new smells and a new feeling but that goes away and it’s a brand new space that is all mine.
