Learned Lately

I usually do a “life lately” post once a month where I just throw a ton of photos at you that I’ve either shared online or haven’t and give you a quick update on all the things that weren’t blog worthy at the time.

I feel like this past month has been an incredible learning experience for me both professionally and personally and well, that deserves it’s own post in my opinion. Hence the “Learned Lately” title for today. I don’t know what’s going on with me but I feel like my eyes have opened a little wider, my heart has kicked back and put it’s feet up and my brain has become 10x more creative and less anxious. It’s been pretty great. I was discussing this with Byrd recently and I told her that when I turned 25 in April I thought I’d have this profound moment where I felt like a grown-up. It didn’t happen all at once, but I do feel different. This growing up stuff is kinda awesome.

So, what have I learned lately?

Riding a water taxi to work is a great way to start the day- I can’t handle traffic first thing in the morning and sometimes my walk to work just makes me sweaty and exhausted. Walking a short distance to the water taxi and then cruising across the harbor is pretty ideal.

Go with the flow- Throwing myself into a super active new job has shown me that being able to go with the flow is most important. Meetings get moved around, changed, and cancelled all the time. Just go with it and always be prepared for anything.

It never hurts to ask- What’s the worst thing that can happen? You’re told no? At least you know! Some things I’ve thought weren’t possible became possible and that is pretty darn cool.

It’s food, not poison- Why was I so scared to try new things? I mean, I’m still a picky eater and won’t be doing an AYCE crab-picking feast but it doesn’t hurt to KNOW that I do and do not like things. Over the past few weeks I’ve tried Korean BBQ, Korean Rice Bowls, spicy wings, ribs, and sushi. However, oysters are still a hard limit…. for now.

Networking is key- I’ve always been a networker and have loved connecting with people in my city, but with a new job comes a whole new group of people that I have to meet. I feel like I’m meeting new people daily and trying to find additional ways to collaborate and work together.

Starbucks- I’m back to being a Starbucks fiend now that there is one RIGHT BELOW MY OFFICE. Well on my way to getting that gold card back, but I have learned that the one in Harbor East has a line out the door until 9:30. So I just push through the withdrawal until then.

Where I am- The person and the place I am in life right now is not what I pictured ten years ago. I figured I would be married with at least one child and living in a house that I bought. I’m no where close to all three of those goals and you know what, I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I’m sure there’s more to come, but I’m enjoying the ride so far!
