Halloween with Yelp

This week I attended the Yelp Baltimore Monster Mash event at a new apartment complex in my neighborhood. This was my first time attending a Yelp Baltimore event as opposed to working it because I sadly left Yelp in September.

My love for Yelp and Yelp Baltimore is real and it was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make regarding my career. I went back and forth on what was best for me and at the end of the day stepping away and giving someone else the opportunity was the best decision I could have made.

Yelp came into my life at a time when I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be doing. I was searching for that perfect job and found it within Yelp. I was planning events, interacting with Yelpers via social media and getting to engage with local businesses. However, Yelp Baltimore was never going to be a full time position because the opportunity did not exist.

When I accepted the position with Waterfront Partnership I knew I had the job I’d been working towards and waiting for but I had no idea how much more difficult working both jobs would be. I throw myself into anything I do 100% and don’t usually say no to great opportunities. I make it work and nine times out of ten I push myself to the limit just to make sure I follow through and give it my all. This is one of the first times I’ve had to say the words “I can’t do it”. It was heartbreaking. I wasn’t being fair to myself and I wasn’t doing the job to the best of my abilities so I knew then that it was time to leave.

Thankfully my boss at Yelp is incredible and completely understood where I was coming from. But it’s hard not talking to my Yelp co-workers everyday anymore! I’m still active on Yelp and am an Elite member so when the email went out about a Yelp Baltimore Halloween party I immediately clicked RSVP and got to work figuring out what I would be.

I don’t repeat Halloween costumes and especially not this year since I’m going to a huge party on Halloween night. I hopped on Amazon thinking I would just get some spider web tights and wear a black dress with dark makeup. That’s when I stumbled upon this:

I bought it immediately and without looking back. I seriously couldn’t have picked a better costume! The party was awesome and it was really great to see my old co-workers and some of my favorite Yelpers.

^^ Frank is one of my favorite Yelpers. We have a running tradition to take a photo together at every event we go to.

I’m sad to no longer be planning Yelp events, but I’m glad that I can still be a part of the Yelp family and enjoy some fun events around the city!
