10 ways to win at roadtripping!

Over the last three months I’ve made two trips that required 10+ hours of driving. That’s a lot of driving ya’ll. I get motion sickness, which means I can’t read or work on my laptop while in the car (the worst) so I have to find ways to keep myself entertained and make any trip in the car a little less painful.

Here are some of my suggestions:

Break it up

Break up the trip into multiple parts if possible. Start the drive after work, knock a few hours out of the way and then wake up early the next morning to finish the rest. 15 hours seems a lot less daunting when it’s two stretches instead of one really long one.

Make a sick playlist

There’s nothing worse than a quiet car for hours and hours. Make a mega playlist with everything from Broadway to rock to dubstep to country. Keep it fun and random. Half the fun is waiting to see what song will play next.

Pack healthy snacks (and a few treats too)

Don’t get me wrong, I love gas station stops on roadtrips and the chance to load up on sour gummy worms and Cherry Coke, but I always feel so crappy after I eat the junk food. Pack healthy snacks in a little cooler and allow one bad treat to find its way into the snack pile. Healthy snacks will make you feel better and allow the car ride to be more enjoyable.

Find the scenic route (within reason)

Sometimes when mapping out a route there may be multiple paths to reach the destination. One may be slightly longer but pass along a mountain range or another scenic viewpoint. A long drive can be much more enjoyable when there are things to look at.

Find places to stop

I love Roadtrippers website for finding wacky and fun places to visit. I think having a landmark or location to focus on helps the drive pass by quicker. Knowing that there’s only 200 more miles until I can see the largest ball of yarn? That’s exciting!

Play silly games

Growing up we always played the ABC game (pick a theme and everyone takes turns going through the alphabet naming items that fit the theme) but there are many more to help pass the time. I like THIS, THIS, and THIS.

Roadtrip with your best friend!

Because who doesn’t want to spend 30+ hours in a car with the person who makes them laugh?

How do you make roadtrips bearable?

Awesome list! Seriously, you nailed it. Road trips are the bomb, but can definitely get boring after a while. But you got my back, girl! Hope you’re having a blast!

I love playing games in the car! Growing up, my favorite was the license plate game or 20 questions. Hope you guys have a great trip!
