#GirlsinGreenJackets Take NYC!

The Baltimore Blogger Babes and I went to NYC for the day on Saturday. It was our first trip together and one that we’d been looking forward to for months!

There are numerous ways to get to New York City from Baltimore but I offered to drive the four of us to Newark NJ and then take the train into the city. So at 7am on Saturday our blogger babe train pulled out of Baltimore and headed to New York. Also, I should mention that we all showed up wearing green jackets, with cross body tan bags, two of us had on striped shirts and two had on converses and it was completely unplanned. I don’t think we could have been more in sync if we tried.

The 2.5 hour drive FLEW by as we talked non-stop. We had so much to update each other on and we were at Newark before we knew it!

I highly recommend traveling via NJ transit from Newark. The ticket is super cheap at $5 and its a 15 minute train ride at most which takes you right into Penn Station NY. When planning for the trip we decided to do the hop on hop off bus simply because we could see a lot in a short amount of time and it allowed us to be spontaneous with our travel itinerary. I am SO glad we did it. I saw more in the 8 hours were in NY than I have in my many trips before this.

We bought a Groupon for the Open Loop bus tours and I highly recommend checking Groupon, Livingsocial and Travelzoo before buying bus tickets at full price. Our tickets were $60 at full price and we got them for $18. Score!

We traveled uptown catching glimpses of the Guggenheim, the Hudson River, St.John’s Cathedral and Harlem. After riding for a few hours we decided to grab some lunch. Annie and I have dietary restrictions but New York was a breeze to find a place we could all eat! There were so many options for both of us and it made for a more relaxed trip since food is my number one anxiety while traveling.

We consulted with Yelp and found an Italian restaurant nearby, Cielo at the Mayfair. We had the cutest little window seat and spent the afternoon noshing on delicious pasta, wine and garlic bread.

The day wasn’t over yet, after lunch we walked through Times Square where we met more #girlsingreenjackets and had an awkward encounter with dancing frat boys. We got some Starbucks to go and hopped back on the bus for the downtown loop which took us through the Flatiron District, past the Statue of Liberty and the Freedom Tower and dropped us off in Chelsea near The High Line.

This was our last stop of the night and the High Line was something all four of us were dying to check out. The High Line is a 1.45-mile-long New York City linear park built in Manhattan on an elevated section of a disused New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line (taken from HERE).

It was incredible. We only walked along a small portion but we were able to see views of the city that I never imagined. We wandered around the Meatpacking District and then found our way to Chelsea Market to grab a bite to eat. By this point I was tired and fighting a bad headache so I’m bummed that I didn’t allow myself to appreciate the market more, but I’m so glad we went!

Annie and I both had vegetarian sushi for dinner and I shocked myself at how open I was to try it!. I got a roll which had black rice, cucumbers and asparagus and charred edamame on top.
