The Best Birthday Party + Video

On Saturday 25 members of our family and friends gathered at my parents house in Delaware to celebrate a very special man. That man is my Daddy who turned 60 this past June. My Mama and I decided to throw him a birthday party and opted for July so we could fit in a trip to the fair in the same weekend.

The weather was steamy (98 without the heat index) and we wondered if folks were going to show and hang around for a while since this was an outdoor party. Let me just say that my Mama was the planner extraordinaire (I didn’t do much) and had so many great ideas on ways to combat the heat!

  1. Tents- we had three different tents set up today. One for beverages, one for food and one as a shade tent in the pool area
  2. Kiddie Ice Pools- instead of setting drinks out on a table we filled kiddie pools up with ice and placed drinks in them. The same goes for our food when it was time to eat. It was so hot that the food wouldn’t have stayed cool without it!
  3. NO COOKING- Mama made mostly cold dishes (i.e. pasta salad, pretzel salad, cowboy caviar dip, etc), we grilled burgers and dogs and we had corn on the cob. Instead of cooking the corn on the stove she put the ears in a cooler and poured in boiling water. Done and done.

My brothers girlfriend, Alesia, put together beautiful flower arrangements from the flowers in my parents yard. Chris helped with everything from shucking corn to picking up the rental tables and chairs and going to purchase bags and bags of ice. He was a HUGE help!

It was a great day filled with lots of laughter, good food, pool time and love for my Daddy who deserves it all!
