honeygrow comes to Baltimore

Last week I was invited to an early tasting at the newest honeygrow location. honeygrow was founded in Philadelphia in 2012 and currently as 13 locations with the new Charles Village shop coming in at number 14. The restaurant is new to the Baltimore area and I had never heard of them until I started working on a new project which involves their second Baltimore location. More to come on that!

honeygrow offers three meals to choose from: stir-fry, salads, and a honeybar. All of the ingredients are fresh, simple and of the highest quality. They take pride in their product and offer only the best to their customers. For example, there are no freezers in the restaurant, they make all sauces and dressings daily in house.

The ordering process is super easy- the customer orders on a touchscreen system allowing them to add/remove ingredients and customize their meal in every way possible. I loved the touch screen ordering system because I am a pickier eater than most, I was able to remove the things I didn’t want and add items I loved to my meal. I’m also a visual person so it helped to see all of my options and be able to quickly tap the ingredients I wanted.

Chris and my co-worker Lauren came with me to the opening and they each got a signature stir-fry dish. Chris had the Chesapeake Crab which is only offered in the Baltimore locations and Lauren had the Red Coconut Curry (she noted that the spice level is not for the faint of heart!). Both loved their meals, but I wanted to make a custom stir-fry for myself. I chose the whole wheat noodles,  edamame, broccoli, scallions, sugar snap peas, onions, and a sesame garlic sauce. It was so good I saved some of it to eat for lunch the next day because I didn’t want it to end!

After the stir-fry was devoured we went back to the ordering station for the honeybar! When I hosted an event a few months ago and was first introduced to honeygrow I sampled their honeybar and fell in love at first bite. Being lactose intolerant I’m not often able to enjoy parfaits from restaurants, but honeygrow gives the option of using honey as a yogurt substitute. We were able to select the honey type, the fruit we wanted and any additional toppings.

i love their touch screen order system because there are multiple screens so i don’t feel rushed when building a custom stir fry! also there’s none of the anxiety of when you go to chipotle and you have to feel guilty about ordering burritos for three people when there’s a line.

Oh my this sounds so good! I wish it was a little closer to work, but I am going to have to head over that way soon. It makes me so excited to see some diverse fast-casual restaurants finally making their way to Baltimore. Wish we could have made it to this event, it looked awesome!
