Homemade Poptarts

Everyone has their weakness, something they know isn’t good for them but they  just can’t say no. Wanna know what mine is?  


 It could be worse right? Ha! I eat fairly healthy for lunch and dinner but breakfast is my sugar filled meal and I just can’t change my bad habits. They are delicious and easy to eat on the go which is key for my busy lifestyle. But they are soooooo sugary and I really need to start cutting back. 

 Homemade poptarts to the rescue! I made these a few years ago and found that they are super easy to make and healthier than the boxed kind since I have full control over the ingredients! 

 They would be super fun to make with kids or for the special someone in your life this Valentine’s Day.  I made mini poptarts to snack on instead of the usual breakfast size. Baby steps right?



  • Pre-made pie crust
  • Strawberry jelly or jam
  • Powdered sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Sprinkles


  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F
  2. Unroll pie crust and cut off rounded corners with a pizza cutter
  3. Use the pizza cutter to make four rectangles (two poptarts)
  4. Spoon jelly on one rectangle, top with the other and use a fork to pinch the edges together
  5. Bake for 5-10 minutes until the edges are golden brown
  6. Set aside to cool

While the poptarts are cooling make the homemade icing with powdered sugar, water and vanilla extract. Homemade frosting is super easy to make, you just mix the ingredients together until the frosting is at a consistency of your liking. Add water to make it runny or sugar to make it thicker. Once you’ve made the icing spread it on the cooled poptart and add sprinkles as the finishing touch!
