Beer, Bourbon & BBQ

This was the first weekend without a ton of plans in a while for us and it was really nice. We woke up slowly on Saturday and went to the gym for our personal training session (more on that later!) and then showered quickly for an afternoon of fun!

Thanks to the awesome folks at Powerplant Live! I snagged four tickets to Pig Swig on Saturday! It was a Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ festival and with the weather being an amazing 72 degrees we were all about it! We had no idea what to expect but were excited to find out, so we met up with Katie and Jay around noon and headed into the event.

The festival included one heaping plate of BBQ with our choice of two sides and all we could sample of beer at Leinenkugel Beer Garden and bourbon at Luckie’s Tavern.

First stop, bacon a stick.

It was at this point we realized we were in for a good time…

Beer sampling was next. I’m not a huge beer fan but it’s Chris’ jam so he definitely enjoyed himself sampling and even purchasing a full glass to sip on. I had a Leinenkugel’s Grapefruit Shandy and Redds Apple Ale which I love.

While we were sipping on beers we hit up the bbq buffet and were NOT disappointed. I went for the pulled pork topped with bbq sauce drizzle, baked beans with pork belly, and cucumber tomato salad. I wanted to get SOMETHING healthy on my plate especially after we crushed it at the gym earlier and I was surprised by how good the cucumber and tomato salad was! It might be something I recreate this summer.

The bbq hit the spot and while I couldn’t finish it all, it was the best choice out of the options hands down.

Since we were on a bit of time crunch we hit up the bourbon tasting next. At Luckie’s outside bar they had lined up 10 bottles to try. It wasn’t until Jay went INTO the bar to get waters that we realized there were at least four more bars inside with just as many if not more bourbon. #ohno

After a few samples we were all feeling good and ready to head out. It was the perfect sunny afternoon with a cool breeze and we couldn’t believe how lucky we were to enjoy some of our favorites while spending the day outside. Thank you Powerplant Live! for having us!
