I said yes.

Two Novembers ago we had a rough night. I was fighting something but couldn’t put my finger on what exactly. I was mad for no reason and every little thing was setting me off. We were late to dinner at a new restaurant. It was their first week open and the food was awful. While we sat there completely defeated he tried to make it better by reaching across the table to take my hands. Immediately I pulled them back and frowned at him. I was NOT going to be the couple that held hands at the dinner table.

He held out his hands again, this time insisting that I place mine in his. I reluctantly obliged. He asked me to look at him and said words that still ring true, “I’m here, it’s going to be ok, just let me”. What he meant was, let me in. Let me into your head and more importantly, let me into your heart.

It clicked at that moment what I was fighting, the walls that I had put up at the first flutter of butterflies. I could tell that this was different than anything I’d ever felt. I was scared of falling harder than ever before. I could feel the walls slowly crumbling and I was trying hard to keep them up.

That night was a turning point and is the moment I let myself be vulnerable. I could feel myself quickly and deeply falling in love with this man and I wanted to let him into my heart.

Over the next year and a half we held hands at dinner often. Not caring if anyone noticed and stared or even cared. We sat on the same side of the booth together just because we wanted to be close to each other. We loved hard without worry or fear.

Fast forward to Saturday (my 27th birthday!) when that man asked me to go for a walk in the park by our house. A park that we frequent often and which holds the Pagoda, a Baltimore landmark I’ve loved for years. He dropped to one knee and asked me with a nervous tremble to be his wife. He held my hand and placed upon my finger the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen. Just like that night over a year ago when he asked me to let him in, he was asking again but this time for forever.

It was the easiest question I’ve ever had to answer.

I told you it was stunning!

I couldn’t possibly love this more! All the good omens – birthday engagement, rainy day, beetlejuice pants – you two will be set for life. I knew he found something different when he met you too! And a girl who eats curly fries at 2am with me, SURELY is someone I want for my best friend, and for ME. 😉 Cheers my love! This year and next are going to be a BLAST.
