Week 25- Strawberry Jam

Strawberry Jelly

My favorite fruit is strawberries- the sweet, juicy nectar that I love to enjoy by itself, as a topping and mixed in with other flavors. I don’t discriminate and will eat strawberries in my smoothies, my cereal, on my waffles or ice cream and even in a bowl with a little sugar sprinkled on top.

I grew up on strawberries and grew up picking my strawberries. Near the town that I was raised in was a greenhouse where we bought (and my parents still buy) all of their plants and flowers. They also had a strawberry patch and I have one distinct memory of picking them with my Mom. I had on clear jelly sandals and a sundress and was running through the rows looking for the perfect strawberry. I fell and my shoe somehow fell off and caught air, landing a few feet away in a mud puddle. I was very teary (they were my favorite sandals…) and my Mom knew how to make it better. She reached over, picked the perfect strawberry and handed it to me.

Strawberries are still one of our favorite things to enjoy together and she ALWAYS picks up a quart when she knows I’m coming home. It only seemed fitting when I stumbled upon THIS recipe on Pinterest that I give it a whirl!
