Float On

On Sunday six of us loaded into two vehicles and traveled the 60 ish miles to Harper’s Ferry for our favorite summer activity of tubing. We try to go at least twice a summer but with busy schedules, work and life this was the only Sunday we all had free so we booked it months in advance and counted down until the day came.

I’d been fighting a sore throat for days but desperately needed to get out of the house, soak up some Vitamin D and spend time with the ones who lift me up when I’m down.

So at 11:30am we rolled into Harper’s Ferry, parked the cars, loaded up our tubes and coolers and jumped into the river!

Growing up in Delaware we didn’t do this. Well, except maybe for the RiverFest in Nanticoke each summer, but I had never personally gone tubing. Last year was my first time and it was a BLAST.We disconnected, left almost all the phones in the car and floated with our music pumping and a drink in our cupholder (my boo knows what’s important when purchasing an inner tube). Gunpowder is a much closer tubing destination to our homes in Baltimore City but nothing beats the view of Harper’s Ferry.

Homes on hilltops and old dilapidated bridges can be spotted from various points along the river. Rocks are scattered throughout the wide body of water so rapids naturally form and clusters of rocks provide a place to pull up and enjoy lunch before continuing on.

Four hours of floating, riding rapids, dancing to music and catching up with some of my favorite people was a great way to spend my Sunday before a busy week. You know the saying- “a Sunday well spent brings a week content”. I’m thankful for these people and the memories.
