Week 29: Red Beans and Rice

Red Beans and Rice

When Chris and I went to New Orleans last year we were surrounded by red beans and rice with sausage at every restaurant we went to. Chris ordered it a couple times and I snuck small bites here and there. I didn’t grow up eating sausage so it wasn’t until recently that I decided I actually like it. Ohhhh I want to go back to New Orleans again so bad to eat all the things and not be so fearful!

Since I’m trying to switch up the crockpot recipes I thought it would be fun to surprise Chris with red beans and rice! Well, my week ended up going haywire and he was the one actually putting everything in the crockpot again! Thanks babe!

We made THIS recipe and it was delicious! I had never heard of red beans being poisonous and thankfully the blog post recipe we followed talks a little bit about what they can do to your body if not prepared properly. It made me very nervous and I’ll most likely make this again with canned red beans just to be on the safe side, but if you are used to using dried beans do whatever makes you most comfortable.

The seasoning wasn’t spot on with this recipe so add in your go-to’s and a little hot sauce before serving to really enhance the flavors!
